Kat Von D: Shade & Light Palette Review

Kat Von D - Shade & Light Contour Kit!

In March I was lucky enough to go on holiday for a week to Marbella, Spain with my boyfriend, Liam. During our stay we found a shopping centre with a Sephora inside! I couldnt believe my luck I've been dying to go to a Sephora for years. Although this Sephora was only a small one it did have a Kat Von D stand.

I had a few things on my list that I wanted but the two main things were the shade & light palette and Lolita liquid lipstick. So I just got them both although I regret not getting the tattoo liner now!
Anyway... The only other contour palette I had used in the past was the Anastasia Beverly Hills one which I love. The Kat Von D one comes with 6 shades, 3 to contour with and 3 to highlight with. I find the powders much more pigmented then the Anastasia Beverly Hills one. The powder also seems much more finer and doesn't cake up under my eyes which I love. I cant used the Anastasia highlight ones bevause they stuck to my dry patches. The Kat Von D one gives a flawless finish. The only bad thing about it is the powders are very cool toned so there isnt a bronzy warm shade - I like the warm bronze shade in the ABH one bevause its good to travel with or if I forget my bronzer. Although the Kat Von D contour shades are amazing because of the coolness they do give the emphasis of a shadow. I wouldn't leave it without using bronzer over as it does look slightly grey, not muddy but just not right without some kind of warmth / bronzer over the top. I'd say its a good versatile palette which would work well for all skin tones. I've found a website where us girls in the UK can get Kat Von D! www.rosesbeautystore.com they also sell many other brands like Tarte, ABH and house of lashes!

I hope you liked this review.

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS CREAM CONTOUR KIT REVIEW

I recently ordered the Anastasia Cream Contour Kit in the shade light from their website, luckily didn't end up paying any custom charges the palette cost me £38 including shipping from America which I thought was reasonable.

When the palette first arrives I swatched all the shades and realised the contour shades were very warm toned, considering I'm a nc10-13 in mac foundations anything slightly orange can ruin my whole makeup.

So I first used the kit before going out for dinner. I started with the highlight shades then contour. I found the highlight shades sunk into my dry patches around my face and especially sunk into my pores although I'd used a primer.
Then for the contour shades they seemed near enough impossible to blend! I tried a buffing brush, a blending brush and a beauty blending but it made no difference.

I then tried the kit again the day after, this time I mixed the shades with some argon oil as I'd heard this would help blend the shades and give a smoother application. It did help but not enough, the contour shades are far too warm toned and come off very orange especially on my skin tone, the creams completely sunk into my pores and made my face looks terrible.

Unfortunately this product gets a 2/10 from me!

What are your thoughts? Have you tried the kit?

January Favourites

When I was picking my favourites I found it almost impossible not to include 75849 different products! I managed to cut it down to 8!
First things first - skin care!

Suffering with very dry skin I was on the hunt for a new moisturiser, I'd heard a lot about cliniques dramatically different moisturising lotion and thought I'd give it a try, I just got a 30ml bottle which will probably last me a month or two, you only need the tiniest bit and it'll go all over your face! My foundation applies 10x better since using this and it's made my dry patches disappear! Secondly it's my well loved Carmex, I've repurchased a new Carmex around 7 times now it's the only lip balm I use 24/7. It's cheap and keeps my lips completely moisturised all day, although it does have a slight tingle feeling to it I quite enjoy that. I also find my matte lipsticks apply much smoother when I've got Carmex on underneath!

Favourite palettes of the month

This was a tough one but I settled for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit for the favourite face palette of the month and then the Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate Palette! So starting with the contour kit, I'm not going to go into too much detail as I've already done a review of this palette previously! All I'm going to say is every shade is creamy and blends perfectly if you don't have this kit you 100% need to invest! Then there's the bargain palette by Makeup Revolution at just £7.99 you get 16 shadows with a mix of mattes and shimmers. This palette is super pigmented and creamy I used it pretty much everyday you can create multiple different looks with it! Defiantly a bargain buy!

Now my favourite lip products!

Starting with the liner, Rimmel London's spice liner has been a definite fave of the month, mixed with any nude it gives the perfect everyday lip colour and it's only £2.99! Then for my 2 most used MAC lipsticks of the months in the shades Captive (in the middle) and Kinda Sexy (on the right) I featured both of these shades on my 'top 5 Mac lipsticks' blog post if you want to see swatches! Kinda sexy is the perfect nude for me and captive is the perfect dark berry shade that doesn't look overally dark, unlike some dark shades which completely don't suit me!

Favourite brush of the month!

This one defiantly had to be the Real Techniques Nics Pics Cheek Brush! I use this with my ABH contour kit for that perfectly blended contour. The bristles are super soft and it picks up the perfect amount of product.

Now there's my fave mascara & highlighter

So starting with mascara, I got this one for Christmas as my mum knows Loreal mascaras are my fave drugstore brand! This one in particular is the Volume Million Lashes So Couture in extra black! The wand is thin plastic with tiny bristles which get thicker along the wand. This mascara lengthens my lashes and creates the illusion of natural falsies I only need one coat and it looks amazing. It's also incredible on the bottom lashes due to the wand not being too big! Then my favourite highlighter is Benefits High Beam. I only have a travel size which I must say has lasted me since August! The tiniest amount goes such a long way. This highlighter creates a perfect shimmer on the cheeks and is my complete favourite highlighter of my whole collection. If you don't own this you need to 100% get it even try a sample size first to test it out! So creamy and easy to blend I can't fault it!

Lastly favourite TV show!

Pretty little liars! Part 2 of series 5 started this month and I've been completely loving it! If you don't watch it you 100% need to! The story line is a girl who's gone missing and they're trying to find out who's done it meanwhile the girls are all being harassed by a anonymous person who's always setting them up. Every series is now on Netflix and they add the new episode every Wednesday of this series! I'd 100% recommend it to anyone!

That's it for my favourites of the month! What are yours?

Mac cool neutrals eyeshadow palette review!

I honestly couldn't believe it when Mac bought out 2 premade palettes with 15 shades in for just £65....which I know does sound very pricey for a eyeshadow palette but if you think of it in a way where if you were to buy your own empty Mac palette and fill them up yourself it'd end up costing around £170! So a premade palette of cool neutrals for £65 was a must have for me!

Mac brought out 2 premade palettes one full of cool neutrals and one of warm neutrals - I brought the cool but I'm hoping to get the warm for my birthday!

Anyway so I've never really used Mac eyeshadows I had a couple in my premade palette which isn't full yet but I never reached for them I was addicted to my urban decay naked palette. Until my boyfriend got me the Mac palette! I absolutely love it all the shades are so pigmented and you can make multiple different looks with them! Although I do find some shades to be a little chalky, usually the matte shades come off as chalky but never the less this palette is now a must have in my collection I absolutely adore it!

*please note second picture (with shade names) is not my own it is from Google images I only included it so everyone could see shade names*

My top 3 most used shades are 'crushed clove, sun tweaked and sweet allure'

If anyone would like swatches comment below and I'll be happy to add swatched to this post! If you're wanting a new eyeshadow palette id defiantly recommend investing in this one! It'll last you years and is a staple in everyone's ️makeup kit!

You can buy the Mac cool neutrals palette from www.maccosmetics.co.uk

Favourite MAC lipsticks!

Finally doing another blog post that's makeup related..my all time favourite makeup products are lipsticks! They're what I find the easiest to buy and the best way to experiment with makeup! My favourite lipsticks to buy are mac cosmetic lipsticks, although at £15.50 each they're defiantly worth every penny.

Firstly if you're buying your first mac lipstick I'd reccommend you ask a mac mua to help you choose a shade and finish as mac do multiple different finishes and if you go and spend £15.50 on a shade yet hate the finish then you'll be disappointed! My favourite finish is amplified followed by satin, amplified is super pigmented aswell as creamy. Satin is creamy with just enough pigmentation. I'm not keen on matte finishes as I find them to be way too drying on the lips.

Here are my top 5 mac lipsticks!

Girl about town is a amplified finish, I love this shade more then all of them just because it's so easy to wear and I find it suits me no matter what makeup I'm wearing.

Then there's captive, which is a satin finish. I only got captive last week yet I can't stop using it I absolutely love the colour! I think it's such a nice everyday colour especially for autumn.

Happy go lucky is a limited edition shade from the playland collection and is a amplified finish, I personally love bright pinks I think they're so girly and pretty. This shade is perfect for summer!

My favourite red ever is Russian red, unfortunately this is a matte so I put carmex underneath to help the dryness. The shade looks amazing it has blue undertones which make your teeth look crystal white.

Finally there's kinda sexy which is also a matte. This shade is my perfect everyday nude! I love this shade as it's not too light or dark and doesn't have too much pink in it. It's one of the only nudes that don't wash me out!

That's it for my top 5 mac lipsticks! What are yours?

To buy mac lipsticks you can get every shade mentioned there except happy go lucky from www.maccosmetics.co.uk

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit Review

So I was lucky enough to receive the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit for Christmas from my boyfriend. After reading multiple mixed reviews on this product I knew I needed to try it for myself, although I was nervous that contouring wouldn't work well on me due to having such fair skin this palette works wonders. This palette contains 6 shades. 3 highlighting powders and 3 contouring powders. All of which are matte except for one of the highlighting powders which has a slight shimmer in the shade sand.

I started off doing my foundation followed by a brightening concealer, then I got my contour kit and chose the banana shade. I pressed the banana shade under my eyes and on my lower forehead using a beauty blender sponge. The highlight this powder gave me was amazing. Although it did get a little chalky once on the skin.

For contour I started off with my cheek bones using the real techniques contour brush I chose the shade Havana although this one has red undertones which can make my face look orange/red rather then a natural shadow. I found this shade actually worked well with my skin once blended out smoothly and I was very happy with the finish. I used the remaining powder from the brush on my jaw line and around my forehead to make sure it all fitted it together well.

Overall I think the powders in this palette are well textured and perfect shades that can work with all skin tones. Although £40 for a palette of 6 shades may be pricey it will last you forever as once you've hit pan on one powder you can buy a refil powder from the Anastasia Beverly Hills website for just $14 which works out around £9. This palette will also be perfect for my freelance makeup kit so I would highly reccomend it to any makeup artists who are building up a kit as a good contour kit is essential.
